For those who’ve delved into the monstrous world of Facebook there’s been a recent development (Nov 07 I’ll admit but many people are just getting on board now) that gives organisations new and better ways to create a presence on the social networking site.
Previously you simply had Groups. Groups are good for a user to join if they want to let others know they use their mobile phone light as a torch or they support some local cause (fixing the highway etc). Groups include organisations too but now there’s a better way - Fan Pages.
Facebook has launched Pages. Read about it here on the Facebook Pages page. Confused? Here’s an exerpt:
Facebook Pages… allow local businesses, sports teams, artists, films, brands, public figures, non-profits and other business organizations to have a presence on Facebook… businesses have a more powerful tool to build a consumer base, sell products, run promotions, schedule appointments or reservations, share information, and interact with customers.
Users can add themselves to your Page as a fan, receive regular updates in their sidebar area, view videos, add photos, write on your wall and so much more. You can also add Flash based content, add applications to your page like users can and interact with notes, links and more.
Facebook Pages are an excellent tool for churches and non-profit organizations to get out there and get a free and easily updateable presence on Facebook. LifeChurch.tv have done it well right here.
